HISTORY OF SAFE IN SUSSEX
Safe in Sussex started life in 1977 as Worthing Women’s Aid, providing refuge accommodation for women and their children suffering from domestic abuse.
This was simply a group of women offering safe refuge for other women suffering from domestic abuse. Since then we have grown to a team of 40+ passionate staff members and volunteers, with services offered to anyone affected by domestic abuse in the West Sussex community, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, age or sexuality.
In August 2021 at Neverathon in Salisbury, 13 brave people took part in a tandem skydive to raise vital funds and awareness.
We Jumped from 15,000ft , our group of intrepid souls put their fears aside and jumped out into the glorious sunshine in the English countryside
We had a range of ages from early 20’s to mid-70’s.
We all came together to complete this exhilarating feat and raise funds for an amazing charity which has been put under enormous pressure during lockdown due to rising cases of domestic violence. we raised about £7k

This was the second escapade with planes as just before the pandemic in 2019 15 mad friends joined forces to Wing Walk in the skies above East London. Each person faced their own challenge, hitting the right weight limit to be allowed to take part was mine. A year in the gym and eating not much more than cottage cheese and salads, got me to the finish line, and success when we stood on the scales on that August Day. For some it was a fear of heights, other even a fear of flying but everyone want to face their own fears for the cause! The total raised that day was just about £15k

Once again I wanted to share an adventure with some wonderful people so in June of 2023 myself and 7 others joined forces to take on the world! We a small part of India in fact. We flew out of Heathrow to undertake to toughest challenge we had done yet… 1100 Kms driving Tuks Tuks from Goa to Mumbai via Pune… many breakdowns, laughs and mad moments along the way we had travelled over mountain, along highways and backstreets plus just missing the monsoon we completed our journey as a team… 4 bugs in the colours of Safe in Sussex rolled into the Hotel in Mumbai on the side of the ocean as the storm clods gathered and the rain came… This time we raised a whooping 25,792 pounds…
