Welcome to the Sakala website, I hope this will give you an insight into the world of Sakala.

Sakala is a physical shop located at 50 High Street Steyning West Sussex. All  items are sourced through a lifetime of travel to India, with the emphasis on fair trade and personal relationships with local craftsmen in India.

Sakala is so much more than a store, it’s a community and a lifestyle vibe.

Travel with Helen – (whose background is in the travel industry) both on organised tours through www.aahilyaholidays.com or if you want to put together your own trip then that would be possible too.

Helen is also a prolific fundraiser for  local charities in West Sussex where she is currently a patron of www.safeinsussex.co.uk and in India where she is an  ambassador for Maherashram.org.

Sakala Travel

If you would like to travel off the beaten track and have an adventure of a lifetime then you are welcome to come and join Helen on one of her trips. Helen has travelled for work and pleasure for 40 years around the world but her heart definitely rests in India and Nepal.

You are welcome to join one of the art and cultural background trips where she is the tour leader with Aahilya Holidays. Or maybe you and a group of friends would like to explore rural India, and maybe visit one of the projects Helen likes to support. With these trips she teams up with Jo Parsons from Travel Councellors to create something completely bespoke.

The third option is a real adventure, if you click the link on our charities page you can read about our Rickshaw Challenge Adventure where all our loves come together travel, adventure, fundraising and community. Here we work with Princely from www.travelscientists.com. Our next challenge will be announced soon.

Sakala Club Room Hire

Here at Sakala we have our club room which is available to hire. We have hosted a multitude of events over the years from yoga and meditation classes, courses in perfume making and art through to intimate birthday and christmas parties, it’s a lovely meeting space for local groups.
