All our homewares from Jaipur you see on this site are produced by the family firm run by Atal and his son, Abhay. The company goes back five generations of tailors and craftsmen and in all that time have operated from the same premises, nestled into the city walls underneath the iconic fort. Within their small factory, actually within the city wall itself, lies a 500 year old Hindu temple. A beautiful, iconic place. But of course now bang up to date with IT and couriers so that you get an economical and flexible service and high quality products.
On my last visit, I saw everything from the cutting of the wooden printing blocks, the making up of the dyes from plants and natural ingredients, dying of the material, the block and screen printing itself, and the cutting, making up and finishing of the articles themselves. Everywhere is a hive of activity, but always accompanied with a smile and quick banter.
In fact many of the staff are the latest generation themselves of the same families that have always worked in the same place. It is much more than just a job. So when you lay out your quilt or lay your table, then there is now a little picture of how it was produced!
